It's no secret that the waters off Stuart Florida and the Florida Treasure Coast are famous and known as "the Sailfish Capital of the World". Stuart Florida in the center of "Sailfish Alley" that starts in Palm Beach, Jupiter, runs past Jensen Beach, and up to Fort Pierce. Anglers from all over the world come here to Stuart Florida in pursuit of the explosive fighting antics of sailfish. While winter is considered "peak season", during the summer months, a large influx of baitfish such as threadfin herring(greenies), goggle eye, blue runner, spanish sardine, cigar minnow, and pilchards reside along the beach and reefs will attract and hold sailfish, dolphin, kingfish, and many other species throughout the season.

Sailfish, Dolphin, Wahoo, are the most sought after game fish on the Southeast Coast of Florida. Their popularity among tourist, trophy hunters and local fishermen is what makes Hungry Bear, Captain Larry and experienced fishing mate an enjoyable fishing day on the Florida Treasure Coast. Of the three top species in our area, sailfish are indisputably number one. WE RELEASE all Sailfish caught on HUNGRY BEAR. The Stuart Sailfish Club first started "release tournaments" in 1955 to preserve sailfish stocks. This was practiced by some in Stuart-West Palm area in the late 1930's and early 1940's.

Although we are known in Stuart Florida for our Sailfish the Dolphin(mahi-mahi) are in much demand being great tasting on the table and a supper fighting game fish. Dolphin are present year round in Stuart's waters, but Spring and Fall brings large numbers during their migration past Stuart Florida. They travel to the south in the Fall leaving the cold waters of the approaching Winter, and back north during Spring as the waters to the north warms up again offering multiple hook-ups with sometimes all six rods going at once. We troll rigged dead baits and lures or live bait for the Dolphin depending conditions. Just like Sailfishing, everyday can be different. A Bull Dolphin however, pound for pound, most times will out fight a Sailfish and just like a Sailfish put on a nice airborne show as you reel them in. Wahoo the fastest game fish in the water has a very explosive hit when first hooked, and is also very good on the table.
