Stuart Florida may be the Sailfish Capital of the World but we catch allot of Dolphin year round on Stuart Florida Fishing Charters. The Dolphin fish is not Flipper and is also called Mahi-Mahi or Dorado in different parts of the world. Dolphin are the fastest growing fish in the ocean and one of the beautiful fish in the ocean as well. The blues and greens of a Dolphin appear to be glowing when they’re hooked up and fade out to yellow and green when they hit the ice box.
Dolphin have a minimum size limit of 20 inches and a 10 per person limit per day. Tagging programs show 3 migratory patterns that the Dolphin travel on. One has them travelling the gulfstream from the Carolinas to the Florida Keys and back, one has them circling the Bahamas and carribean as they migrate in and out of the gulfstream and the third has them travelling up the gulfstream from the gulf of Mexico. During the fall it seems they’re moving into the waters off the coast of Stuart Florida from all directions and feeding just a few miles offshore in only 50 to 100 feet of water. During the winter months they’re migrating south moving in and out of the warmer waters of the gulfstream from 100 to 200 feet of water off the coast of Stuart Florida.
Spring on into early summer is Primetime and the Dolphin fishing is red hot off the coast of Stuart Florida. During Primetime most of the smaller Dolphin are 7 to 10 pounds and we catch 15 to 25 pound Dolphin on almost every Stuart Florida Fishing Charter. Primetime is also when Stuart Florida Fishing Charters catch most of our 40 to 50 pound Dolphin. As the summer heats up the best Dolphin fishing is in the deeper waters of the gulfstream and we catch allot of small Dolphin in the 3 to 5 pound range.
