It’s Mahi Mahi Time

Welcome aboard the REEL BUSY and to our Stuart Florida Fishing Report. The winds of March have kept us at the dock a few too many days this month but we’ve enjoyed a good dolphin / mahi mahi bite on most days. We’ve been getting allot of dolphin bites everyday, missing or releasing allot of small school dolphin. Most of the dolphin we’ve been keeping are 5 to 10 pounds, a couple of 15 to 20 pounds. Check out the expression on this anglers face as the dolphin jumps out of his hands and back into the water during the photo op, good times.

April / May is prime time dolphin fishing off the coast of Stuart Florida. Double digit catches and some of the biggest dolphin of the year. Dolphin of 40 to 60 pounds are caught every year off the coast of Stuart during the spring run.

April / May also delivers a good wahoo bite, especially around the full moons. Wahoo will be working the edge of the gulfstream and drop offs ambushing dolphin, tuna and bonito.
Blackfin tuna have started showing up and should be stacked up on a ridge about 10 miles offshore within the next week or two. Most of the blackfins are 5 to 10 pounds and we catch a few every year from 15 to 25 pounds.

There’s still not much bait around the reefs and wrecks so we’re still waiting for a good cobia bite. There’s been a few around so it shouldn’t be long before the cobia stack up on the near shore reefs and wrecks.
